Our forum is hosted by Pro Boards for free. They make their profits form the sale of ads. Recently I've experienced a rash of small pop up ads while navigating our forum. They're annoying but since they were easy to close, I didn't worry about them. Last week I got a large pop up ad that covered most of the forum. If that wasn't bad enough, I couldn't get it to close. There was no obvious 'X' or close button. I had to click home and return to MSN (since the ad was covering the 'logout' tab) and re-log in.
I've decided to start complaining about bothersome ads. Below, I pasted Pro Boards policy on ads and instructions for complaining about them.
Report Problem Advertisements

ProBoards prides itself in providing the highest quality service with the least intrusive advertising. This thread provides information about the types of advertising we run, how to report ads, and information about our partners that manage our ad inventory.
Found a Problem Ad?
The following types of advertisements are not allowed by ProBoards:
Ads which automatically play audio
Ads that automatically expand to larger than their normal size
Any and all popup ads
Ads which attempt to install software/malware on your computer
If you come across an advertisement that violates our rules, immediately press CTRL+ALT+R on your keyboard and fill out the form which pops up. This will send ProBoards the information we need to investigate the issue.
About Our Ad Serving
We work with The Rubicon Project to manage our remnant ad inventory. We have given them a specific guideline as to what acceptable and unacceptable advertisements are for our site. For example, we don't allow ads that automatically play audio, produce popup ads, or auto-expand on your screen. This information has been distributed by Rubicon to each ad network that runs ads on our site.
Each ad network should screen ads they receive from advertisers to ensure that improper ones do not get through. Unfortunately we do not control the actions of 3rd party ad networks, and on occasion an ad which violates our rules may get through.
So what have we done to combat the problem?
ProBoards utilizes the SiteScout services to automatically scan advertisements for issues. SiteScout is the leader in creating the safest web experience for Internet users. In conjunction with Rubicon, SiteScout automatically automatically pauses any ad tags that may be causing issues that run through Rubicon.
We developed an ad reporting tool (press CTRL+ALT+R on your keyboard). This tool allows you to send in a report to us which provides us with the information we need to track down the offending Ad Network and either block them or get the offending ad removed.
We have a server which are currently dedicated to logging ad codes delivered to users. This system of logging is used so that when a report comes in that a problem ad is occurring, we can bring up a list of all the ad codes that were delivered to that user in a particular time period.
